I’m so embarrassed!
I’ve never claimed to be a perfect greenie and I’m sorry to say that I have booked FOUR plane flights this year.
I’m sorry for the harm I’m doing to the planet but I forgive myself for the two holidays! We’ve already taken one – to the Canaries – and it was fabulous. The other one is booked for later in the year and will be very special. My whole family, husband, kids, sons-in-law and granddaughters, are all going to Majorca for a week. I’m SO looking forward to it. Family times are priceless, aren’t they?
Firstly, we fly Easyjet. The BBC says in it’s article here that “EasyJet has come top of the league for airlines trying to cut carbon emissions to tackle climate change” so it must be true.
Secondly, I did some research about carbon off-setting. I found that Colin and I will fly 8184Km each this year and set out to try and off-set this without breaking the bank. Apparently we’ve generated about 3.3 tonnes of CO2 .
There is loads of information out there. Mostly it is about planting trees. The thing to be careful about here is that the trees wouldn’t have been planted anyway. It has to be extra to what is already being done. Another school of thought is to pay for a ‘green’ project which helps others as well as the environment. Examples of this would be paying for solar panels, a well, windpower or fruit trees in developing countries. We opted for an affordable solution in the UK, paid our money (approx. £50) and received an online certificate. So proud!!
Thirdly, I have found this amazing quote. It made me feel so much better!
